Half a dragon by drakhenliche Half a dragon by drakhenliche
Indian ink, Dr PH Martins Hydrus Fine Art watercolour (carbon black) and radiant concentrated watercolour (sunset red).

Received some sad news in the last couple days. Sadly my Grandfather passed away. 95 is a grand age to reach and he lived a full life that should be celebrated. I'm ok but feeling pensive. I felt the need to draw but didn't want to do anything too involved so opted for Random Dragon Time.

Lovely therapeutic composition, kind of reaching out into another realm. You're right to celebrate his life rather than recognise your own loss, you do him credit by honouring his memory. x

Nice dragon :) Is it kind of a comic strip or just a drawing ? Btw, don't you think it's just stupid to share such as info? Obviously I feel sory about her but... dA ? Realy ?

Sorry, but your comment just sounded completely rude.

It is a nice dragon and Drak has every right to tell a little back story about the picture.

I wasn't going to be rude, actually for me it's just werid to parade with such informations... If I sounded rude, I am sory, I didn't meant to... The dragon is nice as you said but for me it was nothing else than just odd... :) Hope you understood me

Despite it seeming weird to you, she still has every right to post about it, even if its saying that its a way for her to feel better after a close family member's death.

I'm not going to get this right from her... As I (and you also) said: It's weird TO ME... So it doesn't mean anoyone should have the same oppinion and JUST ME probably won't post this. If she did so to feel better I don't have anything against. It's her choice,I wouldn't do that but I'm not in her place fortunately. I hope we may stop this discussion at this part :)

Sorry to hear about your grandfather, but good on you for trying to be positive about it - sounds like he used those years well, something we should aspire to ourselves.

Lovely vent art, by the way. Looks really quite effective with the limited colours and the 'boxed' nature you drew it in.

Thanks. Am trying to be. Mostly I'm concerned for my Nan (who's not doing too bad herself at 94!) but she's taken it well apparently and luckily there's plenty of the Davis Clan nearby to her so she's not alone.

As for the picture, I'm toying with the idea of trying to add some sort of texture outside the box as there's a bit too much white space going on to me, but when I tried yesterday it didn't come out as pleasing as I'd hoped.

I would imagine at your grandparent's age, people are often quite well aware of their impending mortality and can perhaps accept it better than some of us younger types who haven't been exposed to it quite as much. Hard to say, but much strength to your nan, and to you, also.

Hmm, your first instinct on leaving that white space is sound I reckon - gives it more visual impact. Texture or additions to that space would actually detract from it... but that said you go with your gut instinct as to what looks good, sod what outsiders have to say :-)

Sorry to hear of your loss but yes that's definitely a good life to make it to 95. Lovely dragon. Interesting to see the progress.

Thanks - yeah he did pretty good there. Sad I didn't get to say goodbye but heart attacks aren't really predictable. At least he and my Nan made it to their 70th anniversary earlier this year!
